1. Let’s start by getting the word out. Find your U.S. Representative by going to https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative and enter your zip code; enter your address if needed. Click the contact or email option and ask them if they are willing to participate in inquiry into the tax exempt status of Scientology. Or, go directly to the office in person if the address and hours are given.

Your Question: I would like to know what [the representative]’s position is on holding congressional hearings into Scientology’s tax exempt status.

Answer A: Yes, I am open to that. Your response: Great! How can I help you?

Answer B: I don’t really know much about that. Your response: I can tell you what I know, or you can go to endscientology.org for some basic information about why Scientology’s tax exempt status should be questioned. There also are many websites from ex-Scientologists that discuss their experiences in and leaving Scientology.

Answer C: No. Your response: Why is that?

Most congressional seats will be up for reelection in November 2024 ACROSS THE UNITED STATES, so share your concerns with family and friends everywhere and encourage them how to speak with their representatives to discuss Scientology’s non-partisan tax exempt status.

2. Get better informed about Scientology and pass it on so you can have effective conversations. For a very detailed history and account of Scientology, read, listen to the audiobook, or watch Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief by documentarist Lawrence Wright.

Always make sure to LIKE, CHAT, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE to these videos. Your ENGAGEMENT with these videos helps add to the algorithm and sends the videos out to a broader variety of people. Even if you are not able to physically participate in protesting, algorithmic engagement in these websites is a powerful way to impact the anti-scientology effort.

4. Donate or volunteer your time/services to https://sptvfoundation.org. After being in a cult for many years or all their life, it can be especially challenging for a person leaving a cult to navigate the real world. They may never have experienced many common responsibilities of adulthood most of us take for granted. Former members need job skills, housing, transportation, training/schooling, medical services, and counseling/therapy. They may need help navigating banking, shopping, paying bills, getting a driver’s license, and completing applications. They may need help finding their families and returning to their true lives back home across the country or overseas. You can help support former Scientologists on their journey back to their real lives by donating to or volunteering your time/skills.

5. Be an activist. Buy or make and wear t-shirts with anti-scientology messaging. Many of the above channels have great merch including non clothing items. If there is a Scientology center (an Org or a mission) in your community or within a reasonable commute, grab a friend or two and spend a few hours at or around the building (stay on the public sidewalk). You don’t need to record or stream–just make a few signs and be present and visible to the community and to the scientologists who come and go. You don’t need to yell, and you don’t need to be an expert. Just consider what tugs most at your heart about this cult, YOUR most important message (e.g., end the tax exemption, keep people from joining, destruction of families, it’s not a religion, encourage people to escape, alerting the community about the abuses, etc.). Put it on your shirt and/or a sign and/or a car magnet and let the world know as often as possible. Be kind, family-friendly, and trustworthy. Your energy primarily should come from love for the members and maybe disdain for the organization; but be sure to treat the members with kindness, even if they (or community members) become defensive. Include this website (endscientology.org) on your signage or sptvfoundation.org or your other favorite helpful site. Persisting with educating our families, friends, and communities will help prevent young people from getting trapped by the lure of cults and will open all of our hearts to the humanitarian effort that is Ending Scientology.
